A few tips for moving house safely.

Moving house can be a stressful experience, and choosing which company to move with isn’t always easy. It can start out with a well planned out itinerary categorizing everything by room, who it belongs to and so on, and before you know it you can’t actually leave the house you’re trying to move out of for having (Quite literally) boxed yourself in and no-one can find the cat because you’ve accidentally packed him.
To break it down for you, make the whole process easier and save you (And Whiskers) the unnecessary drama, here are a few tips and tricks to make sure you make your move a happy one.
• Start packing early –about two weeks in advance is usually best -but remember the essentials that you won’t want to go rooting around for should you need them. A good way to do this is to look at something, and if you’re not going to use it for the next couple of weeks or so, in it goes.

• No-one wants their best crockery to arrive in bits, so consider your packing strategy carefully. If you feel more confident when the packing is being taken care of by a removal company, make sure they are reliable and have a good record –check reviews on websites, do some research and ask around. If however you’d feel more comfortable taking care of your own packing, then stock up on the necessary materials a couple of weeks in advance. An upside to this, if done properly, is that it will save you money, but you do need to make sure it’s done correctly.

• Proper packing materials can be hard to find, so try to get hold of them wholesale as it’ll be cheaper that way. Wrapping sheets, bubble wrap, old newspaper, heavy duty tape, and stickers are useful, as well as marking papers and scissors.

• Make sure the boxes are secure. This may seem obvious, but the last thing you want is for your prized possessions to fall out of the bottom of the box you just neatly packed them in. Check and if in doubt, double check.

• Label everything! Label it clearly, and for each item on the list, categorize it by room so you won’t get confused as to what belongs where when you arrive. That way, a box of stuff for the kitchen stays exactly where it’s supposed to be.

• Finally, relax –and think of how great it’s going to be moving into your new house –best of luck and happy moving!
